The Importance Of Haisha's Friendship

Decent Essays
I have an Afghan friend named Haisha. We met in the sixth grade at Greenfield Elementary School and became best friends. To her dismay, on April 13, 2017 our military, under orders from President Trump, dropped the Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) in Afghanistan to kill Isis fighters. While I understand the President's responsibility to protect our country from its enemies, it should not be done with the blatant disregard for innocent human lives. Unfortunately, a bomb of that magnitude has repercussions on surrounding communities for years to come. Haisha's was heartbroken by the damage brought on to her country and my heart aches as her friend.

As I have previously written on Black Elk Speaks Journal 1, this story relates to the life I lived and experienced back in my home country, Iraq. Of course both stories are set in different time lines and different events, yet they still are similar. As soon as Chapter 9 starts, Black Elk begins talking about his come country and how the soldiers came there to kill them. There was a reason for the soldiers to go out there and attempt to eliminate an entire tribe and that was because of land, money and material goods. Growing during the war in 2003 back in Iraq was quite similar to the wars and battles the Natives had went through, fortunately my story is not as gruesome as it is to many others that did not survive the war.…

The First and Second American Crisis The first American crisis started after the Articles of Confederation were issued. This strike occurred in Obama’s first year in office “an American drone strike, one of the first ordered on the watch of the new U.S. president, Barack Obama. The early 2009 strike had killed a local elder, along with his son, two nephews, and a guest in the South Waziristan town of Wana”. (Shah and Zenko 2012). It is often that civilians are the innocent victims of human error that occur during a drone strike that was meant for members of groups such as Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. These errors lead to civilian casualties often on a mass scale because of how powerful these missiles are and the continued strikes of a single location.…

Growing up is was no question whether or not I was going to college, it was an automatic yes for me. No one had to ever ask me if I was going to college because they all knew that the answer is yes. We have all been hit with the reality of struggles in life. That’s why I learned quickly that you don’t just go to college so you can get a better education you have to be able to do something with that education.…

Besides the perspective of labor, morals and manners there is also another perspective that has affected me personally in the home seating and my education. Dorothy Smith’s standpoint theory, “is grounded by the assertion that women have devalued social statuses in patriarchal societies” (Roberts, 2015). Smith argues that men have obtained the most values and powerful positions in the paid employment. For decades men have been more recognized for either effort in the work force than women. Even though today more women are in the work force, they are still expected to come home to clean, cook, wash and care for the children.…
