Critical Thinking In High School

Thinking back unto my senior year of high school English was something I thought I had down. Coming into college for the first time was a culture shock to say the least, especially the academics. English in college is drastically different than its high school counterpart. In high school, failing to comprehend new material or neglecting assignments carry virtually no-weight and have little impact on the overall grade. That is not the case in college. Now, I feel that the ability to analyze pieces of literature for their content and their rhetoric has improved but not as much as the critical aspect. Back in high school, these skills were low in comparison to now. My eleventh-grade English class did all the building to this skill until I got to college. We would read books and mark the book full for references of rhetorical devices. With the first small writing, Mary Barnett, my analytical ability was tested. Reading the testimony of the witness’ and being able to pick out the credibility of their statements. Example of critical thinking used in the Mary Barnett writing: “I would vote not guilty based off personal bias from Caroline’s information”. Without critical thinking, I could not have thrown her testimony out because I would not have known it was severely bias. Based on analytical and critical writing, the best one would have to be “The Lost Tribe”. Solely because the whole paper was written on the assumption and from inferring from the clues we were given. Writing about a whole tribe and describing them, would not have happened without the use of critical and analytical thinking. The weakest work I have written would have to be the first essay. It was the lowest grade wise and just full of mistakes. I could not take credit for how terrible it is by saying I have been out of school for almost two years and chalk it up to that, however; that is not what an adult does. With the outlook on the future of my writing career in college and in the professional word, critical and analytical ability will be at the top of the list, especially in the scientific field. The most important thing about this course in the realm critical was having to pick a topic and think about it critically and its effects on the ethical value of
