As a matter of fact, the crime rates in some states that have a majority of gun-owners have dropped (Procon.org 5). According to “More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws” by John R. Lott, he says that the largest increase of ownership of guns in the states has the most decrease of violent crimes. Despite the number of mass shootings that have occurred in that past year, the country has had a significant decrease in crimes since the early 1990s (Davidson 1). People are not aware that “most gun-related deaths are suicides, not murders” (Davidson). Therefore, gun control laws do not help prevent violence, nor stop crimes from occurring. Even if there are laws set in place it would only effect those law abiding citizens because criminals do not follow the law. In a result of surveys taken by inmates on how they obtained their weapons, inmates said they obtained their weapons from the black or grey market (Davidson 3). Gun control laws will only make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain a gun if stricter policies are set in place. Not only does it cause law abiding citizens to feel that their safety and rights are being infringed but it does not help prevent violent crimes. As has been mentioned, in some states the more gun-owners there were resulted in less violent crimes to occur. Despite the amount of laws that could be placed to prevent criminals from obtaining weapons there are still black markets and other illegal ways for them to get guns. Unfortunately, gun control would only be affecting those who abide by the law in obtain guns and using them. The United States should not be a place where people fear for their lives and have no way of protecting themselves. For that reason, the Second amendment is in place for every citizen to have the right to bear arms whether it be to protect oneself from a tyrannical government or from criminals. Gun control is not the answer in deterring crimes, but instead infringes in all citizens right to own a gun and jeopardizes their safety if they cannot use a firearm for
