California is known to have one of the strictest gun laws in America. Many people flock to other states such as: Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, Virginia, and Texas. The laws in these states are not nearly as grueling as the ones in California. Although Washington D.C is not a state it has the most restriction on gun control in the nation. As an american citizen you can not exercise your second amendment in Washington D.C. without being a policeman or high detail security such as, the Secret Service. New York and Massachusetts are among the top states with the most rigorous laws. A lot of this has to do with politics. Penal Code Section 830 states that, “Firearm purchases require a Firearm Safety Certificate and proof of residency unless the individual purchasing the firearm is active duty military or a peace officer under Penal Code Section 830. Military reservists must still acquire a Firearm Safety Certificate and proof of residency in order to purchase a firearm” (Gun Laws in California). There is a restriction on magazine capacity; you can only have up to ten rounds in a magazine while in the weapon. You can have more then ten rounds as long as it’s not loaded in the gun. If you are caught with it loaded in the gun you can expect a large fine and prison time. One thing California is big on is their restriction of NFA weapons. The Department of Justice states: “Possession of automatic weapons or short-barreled shotguns or rifles prohibited without DOJ "Dangerous Weapons Permit"; permission rarely granted outside of film industry. Suppressors (aka silencers) prohibited. Destructive devices are prohibited unless are designated as curios & relics, in which case a collectors permit can be obtained. The responsibility of gun owners are all different. You can not clearly compare individual gun owners in California to Texas gun owners. Everyone is diverse and not everyone follows the laws. Robert Garcia, my girlfriends father is a gun owner and in fact has many guns. Jim Crawford is also a gun owner and is my girlfriends uncle. They both have the same job. One owns a high detail security business who protect people of wealth and high value and the other works for it. Every one of their employees carries a concealed weapon. Therefore because of their jobs they have a collection of weapons at home. Why am I telling you this? To compare two individuals and how they handle their weapons differently at home. To start off, they both have gun safes. One of them doesn 't care about leaving their weapons in plain sight. In fact they leave it on the kitchen table or behind a couch, they just simply don 't care. Maybe part of the reason is because he is a retired LAPD police officer and has that chip on his shoulder. On the other hand the other is all about hiding his guns and keeping them safe. When I say safe I mean locked away securely. The responsibility of a gun owner differs between everyone.
