The Importance Of Guilt In High School

The immense guilt was sitting inside of me all day. I thought that the next time I spoke the only words that would come out of my mouth would be, “I cheated on the test.” I kept my mouth shut all day, until I heard the most horrifying announcement I have ever heard.
“Will James Johnson and Nathan Smith please report to the office? Again, will James Johnson and Nathan Smith please report to the office?” The was a big knot in my stomach. Dragging myself behind me, I stumbled down to the office. Before I went in, I caught up with my friend. “What do you think is going on? Are we in trouble? Did we do something wrong?” I questioned. Congratulations for having the courage to attempt to take the test…” I couldn’t hear a word Mr. Davidson was saying. All I could hear was the voice inside my head that repeated the same word over and over again. “Confess, confess, confess.” That was all I could hear until I interrupted the principal. “I did it! I cheated off of Nathan! I was the one who was unprepared for the test! I was the one who wanted to pass the test so badly, that I resolved to cheating on a test! I am the one who should stay behind not Nathan,” I blurted out. “Wow! I did not expect this from you. Nathan you may return to class; James, I will need you to sit here for a little bit.” I was sitting there for about ten minutes until Mr. Davidson came back with multiple pages of paperwork. “James, I expected more from you. I never believed that you, of all people, would resort to cheating on a test. After extensive research, I have decided that I will let you off with a warning, but this is only because your record was clean.
