In today’s society, there are many types of families. In my opinion, growing up with both parents in the household is a more successful method of raising a child than a household with just a single parent. Children tend to become more successful adults when they have both parents involved because they are learning from both their mother and the father on a consistent basis. Children with both parents have a better understanding of the world and are able to adjust better to various situations.
I was raised in a household with both of my parents, and I feel that it was very beneficial for my growth and development into a productive member of society. One of the biggest reasons for single parent homes, is the birth of children out of wedlock. Young people of our generation struggle with the feeling of invincibility. They think that no matter what decisions that make, nothing bad will ever happen to them. Our generation has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy. This could also directly be correlated to the currently increasing amount of single-parent homes. Having to raise a child alone is a difficult thing, but although it is possible, there is a large strain on the mother as well as a large strain on the child. Another reason for single parent homes, is divorce. Jesus speaks directly against divorce saying, “’But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, makes her the victim of adultery, and anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery’” (New International Version, Matt. 5:32).
