Individualism Vs America Essay

America today hold’s the most diverse population which allows a high level of individuality that not many other countries can achieve. By comparing the united states to Japan it is obvious to see the plain differences between the two. No group can ever be the same as another. If every group was the same there would be no individuality. Without individuality the world would be futile and mundane. Groups are especially different when they are compared to other groups that live across the country. Certain groups teach their offspring completely different then others, such as their values, traditions, beliefs. All of these qualities create individualism. Group life in Japan is completely different from group life in America. For example, Japan’s school’s are stricter than America’s school, not because they value education more but because that is the way they were always told. For western cultures i.e. america, we learn how to work together as a group and to also put forth our own ideas through socialization. American children are taught to be the best but to always be themselves and to “be yourself because everyone else is taken”. This allows people the embrace their differences no matter what it is. By comparing japanese and american culture it is obvious that Japanese children are raised to give respect to one another and work well in the same environment. They treating their classmates like they were family. Children in the United States are not always raised up to respect those around them, including their classmates, colleagues, and family.
