What stages do groups go through in their development?
In relation to case study by implementing support group for women within the community would benefit their health and wellbeing thus eliminate social isolation and loneliness. Tuckman and Jensen (1997cited in unit material reading 2) illustrates there are five stages of group development, the firststage is called Forming. Forming stage represent, a time where the group just starting to come together. During this stage, members gain an understanding of the group purpose and members will be provided with further information and structure of the group (Bonebright, 2010). During this stage, it is important as a staff member to provide positive interaction with the group and make members feel comfortable. Second stage is called Storming, this stage can be challenging, and conflicts may rise within the group (Bonebright, 2010). By evaluating, it provides the opportunity assess whether we are achieving what we plan to achieve and what we could improve in future community projects. There are two methods of evaluations formal and informal (Unit material reading 3). In regards to this case study, it would benefit to follow formal method of evaluation such as questionnaire tool, open questions e.g. what do you think about the group this way members will express their thoughts, feelings, ideas thus would provide knowledge and strategies for future planning for this group. Another way of evaluating this group is thru structured interviews and focus groups which also will provide deep insight into members perspective of the group
