A Career In Graphic Design

Since starting high school everyone from teachers to parents have been saying that it’s important to have a good job. I think it’s important to have a good job, but also a job that’s enjoyable. A job should be enjoyable because people have to do it for the rest of their lives. I think that if I really enjoy something then I should try and pursue it because it would help me enjoy my job better. Two jobs that I’m considering in pursuing is graphic design or a film director. In the first place, I’m considering pursuing a job in graphic design. Graphic design is when you use art to combine text and pictures for advertisements, magazines, or books. I think graphic design would be a good job for me to pursue because I’ve always enjoyed art classes. …show more content…
Although Central Michigan may have a certain program, different colleges require different programs for students. “ Most programs include courses in studio art, principles of design, computerized design, commercial graphics production, printing techniques, and website design… consider courses in writing, marketing, and business… useful in helping designers work effectively on project teams” (“Graphic Designers”). When thinking about pursuing this job it seems like it would be just like creating art of your own, but it involves so much more than that, like advertising and business. Later on, if I pursue this career on of the important things for me to think about is what the work environment will be like and how flexible the job will be. A graphic designer may seem like a low stress job because you’re creating art, which can be something that is enjoyable. In reality though, the schedule of a graphic designer can be stressful when trying to reach deadlines for projects and the amount of workload that you have (“Graphic Designers”). Film directors are, “...responsible for the creative decisions of a [motion picture, TV show, commercial, or stage production] (“Producers and Directors”). Being a film director interests me because I’ve always loved movies. Ever since I can remember I’ve always loved movies, and I remember when I was little if I really loved a movie I would not stop thinking about how cool it would be to be in the movie or to be involved with the movie in some way. I think I would enjoy being the director of a movie the most because I always think of different scenarios to things in my head and I think it would be really cool to be able to tell a story but by also using artistic abilities. In order to become a film director it is required to have a bachelor’s or associate’s degree (“Directors”). Since I’m going to Central Michigan I have looked into the film department and a film/broadcasting major is offered. In order to have this job, “many students study film or cinema… directors have degrees in writing, acting, journalism, or communications” (“Producers and Directors”). It is known that any job in hollywood is a competitive one because there are so many people there that want to have a career in either acting or directing. Once someone have the job though the average amount that directors get paid is 70,950 dollars (“Directors”). On the first job someone will probably not get paid this much money because
