Before and during the American Civil War the Underground Railroad was in full effect it. The Underground Railroad was a series of houses and paths where African Americans who were slaves would be lead/sent/traveled. Coffin said it was very rare when a week passed without someone coming to use the railroad (Coffin). Tubman, who was a slave herself, ran away when she found out that she was going to be sold. Over time, there was a $40,000 reward for her recapture while the bounty was on her head, she made more than nineteen trips to help slaves escape into the North (Harriet Tubman PBS). Looking back at Tubman’s actions she is justified for helping, because whites were oppressing blacks who were just as equal and talented as them. In Fahrenheit 451 it was oppression for asking questions and learning as much as they can. Therefore we can conclude that Granger is showing compassion to those in the same situation, and is correct for helping
