Why Going to College is Important
Although some people would prefer not going to college, other people may say that going to college is important. Connecting with students and professors on campus will not only help the student make friends but they can also learn skills they need for after college. Going to college including staying there is important because it helps develop life skills, a career for themselves and also improves communication skills.
Living at college campuses such as in dorms and fraternities can help a person with their life and interpersonal skills. For instance if a student is not used to being independent, they can start by living by themselves or with a roommate and …show more content…
If the student tries their best in college then they will probably get a good career. The key in getting a successful career is to keep in touch with professors in the classes relating to the student’s major. Even if the student is not taking their classes anymore and for instance are taking classes that are not related to their major then the student should still keep in touch with their old professor because they could help the student write letters of recommendation for an internship pertaining to their career and also ask for advice about preparing for higher level courses relating to their major. The only way a student could get hired in an advanced career field such as Boeing or Microsoft with high salaries is if they get a degree from college. Receiving a college degree means that the student understands what their field is about well and are prepared for the type of work that they will have in their careers. Without a college degree, even if the student does get hired they would not be sure what they should exactly do in the job so if would be likely they will get fired versus if a student has a college degree they will know exactly what they are doing in their career. For example following from the previous paragraph, a student can practice talking with the professor and students they are networking with. If a student is shy or cannot communicate that well with others, then interacting with other peers and professors is a starting position to boost their communication and verbal skills. Also from the first body paragraph, the student can communicate and talk with their dorm mates. Relating back to the previous paragraph, If the student encounters a problem in their dorm; for instance if they are having a hard time cooperating with their dorm mate, then they must figure out a way to use assertive but not aggressive communication to solve the situation with them. Such as if the student thinks that their dorm mate is talking loudly with his or her friend in the room then the student should tell them to stop talking loudly with a reason why and politely along with a suggestion of where and when they should talk that way their dorm mate will not take offense to the remark and hopefully, they can take time to think about their actions and find another way to talk to their friend in the future without disrupting the student.
