Because they live in a poverty stricken environment, they are expected to mature faster than they should so that they are able to go out into the fields to help support their family or themselves. Because of poverty and the lack of stability or ways to feed themselves, children are more vulnerable to be lured into traps such as the black market, sex trafficking, and the drug business (Pangilinan 2012:122). Because they are not encouraged to obtain any form of education, they do not have the background knowledge needed to make educated choices that would most benefit them. Children in the Philippines may have to work, so because of having a full-time job, they are not able to get an education. As adults, they most likely encourage their children to work (Pangilinan 2012:121). Education is also expensive and difficult to obtain because of the cost of transportation, school uniforms, and fees that are needed to even attend school. Families living in poverty are not going to be able to afford and education for their children which is why they prefer to put their children onto the workforce in order to create income and support and feed their family and themselves. In addition to outside assistance, the government should increasingly become more active in encouraging families to take their children to receive immunizations and enroll them into schools to provide some basic form of education (Barrientos 2011:113). These families in return receive some monetary assistance when they meet the requirements. Currently, increasing their education institutions and encouraging children and young adults to attend school is one of the ways the Filipino government is working towards decreasing their poverty rates. Another solution that they have come up with is to create more jobs for the ever-growing population. However, because of the lack of quality jobs and weak investments made by the government into the pork barrel, it has been difficult for the people to find and keep their jobs.
