History is something that many people overlook, something that is even more overlooked is geography. It seems that most people are only concerned with what effects them, or at least what they think has an effect on them. There are 196 countries in the world, and more than seven billion people on earth. Besides obvious over population issues, there is the issue with the overall education of everyone. “Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it” (Edmund Burke). This quote is so simple yet so powerful. Once one understands history, one can then see the warning signs of something impactful happening again, enough to even prevent it. I had a little strategy, I went from continent to continent naming all those that I could remember. I could not name much but I wrote down almost a third of the 196, 62. I then searched all the countries, I then realized that I missed a few that were almost obvious, like North and South Korea. Doing this also gave me an excuse to pursue more geographical content online. It seemed that the only people who were excited to take part in the activity were my teacher and those who did not want the class to start. When I collected all the papers I began to see the differences between every ones result. Many of the students took the time to number how many countries they could name, unlike my teacher. So I started to count and was a bit disappointed because she was not able to name at least 100, she was able to name 83. The two students that followed her were not that surprising, they were, Chris Fontes, who is ranked 3 in my class and also takes AP History who named 80 and Helen Magana who is my class’ valedictorian who named 75. The rest were all able to name at least 50, they were not the best results but I would presume that they are better than
