Friendship is something that we all cherish. Friends help us, guide us and is always there when we need them. But what happens when the lines of friendship become blurred and feelings change? In the movie “Made of Honor” directed by Paul Weiland is about two friends Tom and Hannah. Tom and Hannah begin a friendship in college after Tom accidently gets into Hannah’s bed instead of her roommates bed. After this they become friends and their relationship carries on into adulthood were they both live in New York city and have made it a point to see each other every Sunday. It is not hard to notice the chemistry between Tom and Hannah considering they do things like go to lunch together, hold hands, and even know exactly what the other ones like …show more content…
“Personal relationships are those in which the participants are irreplaceable and communicate in close and unique ways” (Duck and McMahan, 2015 p. 134). Before Tom goes to spend the day with Hannah, like he does every Sunday, he goes to pick up coffee for them. He first orders his own coffee and then proceeds to order “a decaf, triple grande, nonfat, extra-hot, stirred, no-foam caramel macchiato with whipped cream, extra caramel and filled 70 percent of the way” (Moritz). This is a very specific coffee order and when he gives it to Hannah he tells her it's just the way she likes it implying he was already aware of what the order was and did not need her to repeat it. This shows that their relationship is so close that coffee ordering has become a ritual for Tom. Also when Tom and Hannah are together they often invade each others personal space by doing this like linking arms, holding hands, and whispering in each others ear, activities usually done by couples. They even gaze at each other, which usually implies romantic feelings because it is a kinesics in which one person staring at the other with a look of satisfaction or reward (Duck and McMahan, 2015 p. 102). When Tom and Hannah communicate with each other in this way it implies romantic feelings because these are things usually done by people in a romantic relationship.
