Throughout the book she demonstrates possible signs of romantic love which creates confused feelings within her. The relationship Katniss has between the two is altruistic love. Their relationships also demonstrate levels of trust. With the assistance of The Meaning of Friendship by Mark Veron, the relationships will be explored. The feelings Katniss has between the two males is altruistic; she is unclear about her feeling for the two but she does unintentionally gravitate toward Peeta. First off Vernon states, “love that is solely other oriented is what we now call altruistic love”(Vernon 141). In other words, one person looks after the other instead of himself or herself. This relationship represents what is going on between Katniss and Gale. After Katniss wins the Games, she tries to help out others, as well as Gale and his family. They give each other assurance, because they both played in the previous Games; and both of them know their cooperation with one another leads to their survival. In The Meaning of Friendship, Vernon says, “trust is about making judgment”(Vernon 151). During the Hunger Games trust is a key factor, but can not always be followed. Trust is needed in order to work together, which is hard to achieve in these Games because the ultimate goal is to be sole survivor. Katniss and Peeta’s bond is strong, and when asked to work along with other players to form allies, Katniss refuses. She does not trust them, and she even says, “I do not trust any of them…”(Collins 222). She has this sense of judgment because the people she is up against are old victors, who have played in the Hunger Games. She is aware that placing trust in them is risky and could lead to

The emergence of the female heroine in young adult dystopian fiction is working to change stereotypical representations of women through texts. Women are often under represented, hyper-sexualised or lack complexity in modern works, with just 23% of films distributed globally from 2010-12 featuring female protagonists according to a report released by the Geena Davis Institute. While it is true that female protagonists have been seen over time, they are all too often represented in manners that focus on appearance, their domestic roles and subservience, or emphasized femininity (Connell & Messerschmidt, 2005). Cult classics like The Hunger Games and Divergent are working to empower young women through the characters of Katniss and Tris who are…

In the Hunger Games, the most important similarities the movie shared with the book was making Peeta initiate the idea of him and Katniss being lovers. This is so significant because, without this, most of the main events in the book and movie would never have taken place. For one, this angle would have left Katniss to be just another face in the crowd, not making her stand out, which also meant fewer sponsors, decreasing her chances of survival. However, the most important reason for this is because Katniss would have left Peeta to die when he needed her the most and she would not have been able to plant the small seeds of defiance against the capital. In the movie and novel, the games take a surprising turn when an announcement goes out that…
