The Importance Of Freedom In The United States

The struggle of freedom has been an important concept to the U.S. for hundreds of years now. Citizens of the United States sacrificed their lives to fight for the rights of independence. Freedom has taught the citizens to learn from their mistakes and to not judge one another of the color of their skin. Frederick Douglass once told “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” This quote demonstrates that a “perfect” country is not always the smartest country because the citizens can get what they want, even without fighting for it, such as justice. Freedom should be demanded because people will have more pride on independence and everyone will be treated equally. Fighting for freedom will give independence more pride. King states that “When will we ever be satisfied? We can never be satisfied as long as the Negroes is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality… We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro’s basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one” (King 49). They patrol the streets to make sure that woman like Sanaz wear their veils properly, do not wear makeup, do not walk in public with men who are not their father, brothers, or husbands” (Nafisi 20). This quote states how women from Iran has no freedom because their freedom has been taken away by the men, which causes the woman to rebel. Nafisi’s quote talked about how men from Iran took all female’s freedom away and that they have control over the woman, which indicates that if freedom has been given, men from Iran would not have treated women equally due to the fact that they may not know the value of freedom but women from Iran would.
