Why Do Public Schools Acquire Uniforms?

What is freedom? It’s defined as the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Without hindrance and restraint is the key part to this. A person is given the right to freedom in the Constitution. However, their right to freedom gets violated when schools try to force uniforms on a student. There has been many attempts to stretch dress code policies, which aren’t as restrictive as uniforms but still hinder rights. For example, 13 year old Alan Newsom had a lawsuit against his school in 2003 for them making him change his NRA shirt. Public schools should not adopt a uniform policy for students because uniforms hinder a student’s individuality and diversity. School uniforms can cause bullying issues to arise. Furthermore, uniforms often become a financial burden on a student’s family. The opposite is true. In this day and age, there are many schools within distance of each other. Schools that don’t require uniforms would produce students who bully and degrade those who wear uniforms because they are different. According to these people, they are better than those who don’t wear uniforms because they wear what they want when they want to wear it. In addition to potential bullying problems, self-image problems arise because of the social normality in our society today. Some people buy specific articles and brands because these clothes make them feel better about themselves. For example, people who are overweight generally try to wear darker colors because it masks their wright more. Students will feel as if they don’t fit in because they can’t wear what they want.
