Should Students Offer College Classes

All students go through twelve years of core classes: Math, Science, English, and Social Studies. This is reasonable, and with free education in the US, students get most basic skills they will want or need in day to day life, as well as some skills they may never use. Whether they use these skills or not after high school is their own choice in career and lifestyle. However, for every student who decides to further their education, another year of core classes lies ahead; This time it’s not for free. So this paper will pose the question: Why should a student pay hundreds – or even thousands at some schools – just to stress and work on a subject their major has nothing to do with. A student with a business communications or creative writing major should clearly take say, English 101. However, when that same student has no choice but to choose a class akin to college level Algebra, questions should be posed. College classes should be free to offer these core classes, but the student should be the one to decide if they wish to pay for a class in Algebra three despite their major in Environmental Science. Classes that are considere necessary for life should be taught in high school and lower grades, while they are still free and without consequence. Telling an adult student that twelve years of mathmatics still has not prepared them for their life, or that they will be needing another class on general world history in order to be a decent engenieer, is silly. Instead, more specific classes should be offered on things that a student may need to know for their field - historical feats of engieneering might be important to that engenieer, but do they really need to know more about world war two than they can learn in highschool or on google in order to know the basics of
