Case Study: Forest And Range Evaluation Program

Improved Essays
Situation: A couple of years ago, I was responsible for carrying out Forest and Range Evaluation Program (FREP) surveys within the time frame. To meet the target, it was not easy, there were a lot of challenges: the shortage of crews and the budget was the main issue; there’s an accessibility problem; the most of the stands were dense and busy (unbrushed); and the deadline was approaching.
Task: Completing the FREP project within the time frame regardless of the challenges. Action: I believe my personal qualities significantly helped achieve the desired outcome despite the unfavorable situation for work. I analyzed the situation and focused on goals, simplified the way realizing the past work, and applied the alternative tools when required.

Based on our District 's past performance history and the type of survey specific record, our organization’s economic perspective, available human resources, and organizational return, goals were set up. The short term goals, like completing 2 surveys tomorrow, 5 surveys in this week etc., were set up while streamlining the task. To make the task cost-efficient, my target used to be finishing a block survey in a day rather than returning again to complete. In shortage of crews, I requested the management to arrange the staff from other units to help out, and I made weekly plans altering the day so the crews would not get …show more content…
Considering the complexity of working in dense-bushy blocks, the equipment was replaced with the different kind so that increased the work efficiency; for example, height poles were replaced with vertexes; hip chains were replaced with rangefinders; and the estimated data was taken for the coarse woody debris (CWD) and which was still compatible with the survey method. Basically, I adhered to the organizational norm, but demonstrated my flexibility by showing my availability to work on weekends and overtime hours as well; I formed three groups from two, making two crews in each group. Without the confirmation of the supervisors of the crews, only the based on the crews ' tentative acceptance, I had taken a risk of booking the helicopters for next field

I want to become a Naval Officer because of the people I have met. The American Legion Post 360 is the sponsor for the local Boy Scout troop and working with those members is what made me want to become a Naval Officer. The members of the Legion were wonderful to work with, and when I worked with them they did not focus on themselves. They focused on what they could do to help the project. This attitude is one I would like to have and becoming an officer paves that way as its goal is to create people who focus on completing the project.…

Over the course of the 20th century the Pacific Northwest was largely shaped by events that occurred in both the national and international level. In the past the Pacific Northwest was a hinterland and therefore its economy was effected directly by events that occurred outside of the region. This trend continued during the 20th century as well; although the region was not a hinterland any more, it continued to grow and change based on events occurring outside of the region, whether it is global or within the nation. These events affected the region economically, through the depression and multiple wars occurring during this time, and socially through the removal of Japanese and the increased immigration of African Americans. All together these…

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

    1. Forest Grove in Saskatoon is an area that has not had much focus on their community’s personal and local health. I have been living here since September and I get the impression that people keep to themselves more than necessary since we do not have any substantial community centers or local community events to bring people together. This atmosphere may affect a person’s personal health because of the potential for people to be isolated in their own homes, not feeling welcomed by their neighbours.…
