Personal Narrative: A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Art is a way to express yourself, whether it 's through feelings or trying to say something without saying anything. That’s why the saying go 's “A picture is worth a thousand words” but I like to think so can food. I love and prefer my mother 's cooking more than anybody in the world. If food was a canvas, my mom would be Picasso or Van Gogh. I would say there 's probably hundreds of food choices that can either express our identity or aspects or even both. Out of that long list of food options, the one you pick can say it all. My mom 's rice identifies both my identity and aspects.

Regardless if it 's my grandma, my tia, or a restaurant; no one can make the rice like my mom can. She can make a big pot of rice, yet it 's never enough because it always seems to run out. I am the only one in the family who is vegetarian. In spite of that, she somehow always finds ways to make food that would benefit all of us. There are some occasions where my mom comes home late from work and my siblings and I do the cooking. My dad is kind of bad at cooking, and he has a tendency to burn it more than he intends to. That’s how it reflects my relationship between my identity and aspects. To put it all in one simple way. It goes from what it means to me, my goals, and who I want to be. Whether if its making rice or something else, it brings the family together as one. It doesn 't matter what my mom makes, even if it’s her first time making it. To me, it’s the best dish that I ever had. Her cooking makes me feel warm and at home, no matter where I am. Giving me goals and wanting to accomplish things in the process to become someone as wonderful as here. Seeing as my mother is a nurse and wanting to become a wonderful person as her, is my motivation and passionate reason to want to help others and become a surgeon in the first place.
