Argument Against Gmos

The world is based around efficiency. In modern terms, efficiency means less money usage. If people have a chance to keep money, they will become as efficient as possible. Money is a driving force in the world. Money is so powerful that people will cut corners in order to save it. This also is actively present in governments around the world. Sometimes governments cut corners in education, public recreation, or even public transportation. However, out of all of those and even more, there is one government controlled industry that should never have any corners cut: the food industry. The food we consume is quite important to our lives as it is the general basis of our health. In this case, one would believe that the government would fulfill …show more content…
We cannot possibly eliminate the using of GMOs from our society as many countries rely on the use of GMOs. As seen from the graph below (mother jones), countries from all over the role rely on GMOs in their food industry. If we were to ban all GMOs, economies would crash, governments would have to search for a new way to produce food quickly, and famine would spread throughout the world especially due to the outside world heavily relying on the United States, the highest using GMO country in the world, for food. However, the dependability on GMOs shows a flaw in our society. We can not put all of our eggs into one basket, especially a potential hazardous one. If the world continues to depend on GMOs to save our food industry, we face major repercussions. Due to the heavy reliance, however, we have to find a medium between eliminating GMOs and spreading them. Instead of having 3 out of 4 food contain GMOs, let’s drop that number to 2 out of 4 and later, 1 out of 4 and eventually, we hope to eliminate all GMOs. Nevertheless, the process has to be gradual in that sudden change can dramatically impact our world. The fallout would be compared to that of the stock crash of 1929. It is sad to compare the implications of GMO elimination to that of a economic crash. Yet our world has prioritized the production of food to the fullest and we have had to consolidate in many ways including through the use of genetically modified

Did you know GMOS’s are causing many new problems? These problems are occuring because of things like food shortages. For example, in source 1 it says that crop varieties are vanishing because of shifting local weather patterns which are causing farmers to adopt new hybrids. This affirms the idea that GMO’s are causing problems because of shifting weather changing that ends up causing farmers to adopt new hybrids. Source 2 also supports the claim that GMO’s are bad, because the genetic alterations can cause harm to organisms which could lead to the possible extinction of the original organisms.…

The United States can ban GMOs altogether to get rid of the risks that they bring to our environment and our health. We, America have a big problem. GMOs are in many everyday foods that we consume. It is wrong to think that we don’t know much of what we are actually eating, and that I believe is wrong. Many organizations such as the Non GMO Project are trying to counter the GMO movement but…

Gmos should be allowed because they allow plants to be more resisitant to extreme weather. California is currently in a drought and a GMO that can strive with ocean water would be great since the drought is killing the plants and ruining the ecomony since we have limited fresh water. With GMOs, whenever a drought like this happens we won't worry or waste the water required for planting and use that water for other need stuff instead. For instance, there is a new breed of corn that is drought-resitant, where it's goal is to provide maize that is suitable to survive the dry, tough conditions in Africa. In places where water is limited, GMOs provide an apporaite choice so people can recieve the food and money…

With the rate at which our planets population is growing, what are we going to eat when we run out of room to plant crops, raise animals? There is always the option of genetically modified organisms or GMO’s, meats that are grown in labratories, algae, or even insects, but all of these are “temporary fixes” to the real problem. How can we sustainably survive on this planet at all if we continue down this path of over consumption? According to the Non GMO Project, GMO’s are defined as living organisms whose genetic material has been altered via genetic engineering in a laboratory (GMO Facts, 2016).…

My partner and I have decided to focus our debate on the topic of Genetically Modified Foods. This issue is becoming more and more relevant as countries and states continue to pass legislation related to the continued growth of GMO’s and the anti-GMO community I will be arguing for the continued production of GMO’s. My family is extremely anti-GMo and I have heard many arguments raising the moral and ethical problems of modified foods. However, I’ve always found the case against GMO’s to be flawed and wish to craft a counterargument myself.…

Guiding people from the unforgiving shadow of nature, technology manifests itself from the first piercing spear to the first flying sparks of electricity. Today, the growing innovation of genetically modified organisms will redefine what was once impossible. Genetically modified organisms or GMOs are the result of taking the beneficial characteristics of one organism or a chemical and merging it with that of another organism, to enhance its overall performance for a specific purpose, i.e. increased yield of a crop or increased meat production. Breaking through the surface of GMOs reveals how civilization has gained the knowledge to alter nature for the better and for the bad. By isolating the five main factors surrounding GMOs: environmental,…

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are in most ways beneficial to agriculture. GM crops could stimulate growth and nutrition in developing countries, and there are also no completely proven risks to safety. With more research and labeling of GMOs, the country could become more accepting of this new development in agriculture. This would be a benefit for everyone. GM crops are both easier to grow and more efficient.…

Genetically modified organisms also known as GMOs have been an area of hot debate over the last few years. In this article we will explore the arguments for and against GMOs and at the end dispel the fear-mongering and show that humanity has been modified organisms since the beginning of recorded human history; we are just much better and faster at it now than in the past 1,000s years. The goal in GMOs is to modify organisms (generally food stock such as livestock and extensive agriculture, plants), at the genetic level, to obtain better quality offspring. Companies such as Monsanto and other agriculture, industrial giants aim to create plants that taste better, have better nutrition qualities, are resistant to drought, pest, and other environmental…

Even though Genetically Modified crops are feeding children in poverty stricken nations; they are destroying the ecosystem and are diminishing water sources. They will cross pollinate with local wildlife they will cross breed plants that secrete their own pesticides and herbicides. This will cause bugs to eat the plants, killing off some, but the ones that will survive will have obtained a resistance to the pesticide through natural selection, rendering the original gene totally and utterly useless. Most herbicides and pesticides are not there to completely commit mass genocide on weeds and bugs. They are there to repel them and make plants undesirable to eat and after continuous consumption of this herbicide/pesticide the bug or weed…
