Reflection Paper: My Field Experience

Great Essays
Introduction
Over the course of this semester I have had the opportunity to volunteer at two events. The first was a field trip on the UNG campus in which South Hall Middle School came to tour the campus. During the field trip, I was stationed in the science center and was able to meet some of the students and discuss their future goals and ambitions in life. The second event was an Elementary Science Olympiad held at North Oconee High School. The students rotated between different stations in order to compete against other schools and test their knowledge in different areas pertaining to science. Due to the fact that the dynamics were very different, I was able to compare several components and relate them to topics covered in class over this

During the SHMS fieldtrip, I was at the science station teaching the students the properties of Oobleck. Afterwards, we conducted the Oobleck experiment and discussed the properties once more, since the students were able to physically see the mixture converting from solid to liquid in their hands. Although many of them said they created Oobleck in the past, they still seemed significantly interested in the process and some of the students were even willing to provide feedback during the group discussion.
At the Elementary Science Olympiad, my interactions with the students were somewhat limited. Due to the fact that the event consisted of multiple mini-events, we were on a strict time schedule. When the students arrived at my station, I quickly explained the instructions and began with my rotations. I timed each rotation to only last two minutes so the students would have enough time to complete the category. My duty was to time and observe two stations in total – the “Don’t Bug Me” station and the “Weather or Not” station. I noticed the students were more enthusiastic about the “Don’t Bug Me” station and the competitive scores confirmed my observations. When scoring the answer sheets for the “Weather or Not” station, many students left answers blank and showed little concern regarding their

Discuss the results and challenges that the students encountered. Did they prove or disprove their hypothesis (what they thought would happen)? Explain that the properties of a mixture are dependent on the amount of materials they use in their mixture. Examples can be used; e.g. I could make a very, chocolaty cake by adding more chocolate, I can dilute (weaken) the strength of cordial by adding more water.…

Portfolio reviewers: My pre-ECU 2201 experience was my English 1100 course. While taking this class online, I learned how to make an interesting essay. Though this class didn 't require much research, it taught me how to write an interesting essay. Most of the time the professor gave us the decision to write whatever we wanted to write on. There might been some times where he wanted us to write a specific topic, but still had the chance to write whatever we wanted within the topic.…

Session five was a big stepping stone for me, I believe I asked questions that guided her and properly validated her feelings, not to mention my powerful use of silence during the whole session. This reflection will shift gears from how I originally lay out my reflections. I usually express the goals I said I would work on and then share the progress I made during the succeeding session. However, I shared my uncertainty about where to take our session after the last one. I believe this doubt helped session five unfold the way it did.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Mid Reflection This mid-reflection was based on the first six interviews during the data collection. The purpose of the mid-reflection was to compare the researcher’ pre-reflection and understand of the African-American farmer's experience with UF/IFAS Extension with deeper actual knowledge of the data (Wilcke, 2002). From this point, the researcher identified the new understanding of the lived experiences with African-American farmers with UF/IFAS Extension. This enabled the researcher an opportunity to expand and gain fresh perspective of the phenomena.…

Through multiple volunteer shifts at the Credit Valley Hospital in the cardiovascular and medicine departments, I have grown significantly from the challenges faced in the stressful environment, the biggest lesson being efficient self-reliance in unpredictable situations. I also contribute in the annual planning of an environmental-awareness event called BogFest where I advocate for lesser-acknowledged issues. The extracurriculars I participate in include HOSA as a member in the biomedical laboratory science cluster, Science Club as a general member, French Club as an executive member and band as a bassist. The term honor in National Honor Society can be used to describe an individual that shows integrity, equality and respect through their actions. As a student of Beacon high school, I have made many efforts to model my daily actions around exemplifying the student of honor. Through demonstrations of leadership, character, and service, I have shown my qualification to be admitted into the National Honor Society. I exhibit good character to the community by helping to teach younger children during Sunday school at my church. Self-Reflection 2 Eliut Lopez-Enriquez Millersville University Moral distress comes in many ways to many nurses. My moral distress situation came about when an unresponsive patient came to the emergency room and the family had a Do Not Resuscitate/Do Not Intubate paperwork. I was the primary nurse; the house supervisor was present to ensure that the proper paperwork was at hand. After verification of the paperwork and talks with the family, the team stood by to ensure the patient no further suffering and no further distress felt by the family.…

When I re-read my science autobiography from the beginning of the semester, it made me realize how little I knew about science and how the experiences I have had throughout my life involving science were vague. This proved to me that it was an unimportant topic or was not made to be important in school throughout the years. Some of my views have changed while others have stayed the same. I still believe that my lack of memory of science from grades k-12 is a reflection of poor and uninspiring teachers that did not show me that science could be fun and touches on multiple elements of the world. Science was always portrayed as just one thing such as, experiments and playing with chemicals.…
