Predominantly, there are many different types of feminists who advocate equality for different reasons and one often misinterpreted in the media is radical feminism. What the media perceives as radical feminists creates an increasing problem within the country because it has become the new and very wrong way to classify feminism as a whole and has classified many feminists as “man haters” instead of individuals advocating women 's rights and equality among the sexes. The word feminism has been paired with the media’s view of radical feminists so many people especially celebrities fear saying they are feminists because of the perspective that all female feminists hate men and want women to rule over them (Bodenner, n.d.). Furthermore, the media has a double standard towards men and women’s actions which is the inequality if the genders. Robin Thicke’s hit 2013 song “Blurred Lines” is an example of why feminism is still needed today because aside from the degrading and offensive lyrics, “The video is four minutes and thirty-three seconds of Robin Thicke, T.I., and Pharell being felt up and grinded on by stereotypically attractive women wearing nothing but nude thongs, while the men remain fully dressed” (Seaton, 2013). A Parody of the music video called “Defined Lines” portrayed the male the same way as Robin Thicke did to females but it was demanded to be taken down immediately. YouTube Community Guidelines states, “We encourage free speech and defend everyone’s right to express unpopular points of view. But we don’t permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion….)” (Seaton, 2013).
