I believed that if both parents were present during one’s high school period (or majority of the time) and if they were employed, then it is likely that one will rate his or her overall family environment as positive because with both parents present, they are able accomplish each of their specific duties in the family such as the mother fulfilling the duty of a nurturing caregiver. This is an example of a positive association with the variable of interest and related variables.
However, I predict that if either parents or both of them had engaged with heavy drinking and/or smoking, then it is likely that one will rate his or her overall family environment to be negative. It is universally taught to children that heavy drinking and smoking has a negative connotation and impact to people’s health and lifestyle. This is predicted because this indicates that individuals will most likely to have close contact with them, hence, establishing a strong familial connection.
I also assumed that the more often individuals had meals with their family, the greater likelihood that individuals will rate their overall family environment to be positive. This is to believe that the more time individuals interacted, communicated and spent with their family, the more close their relationship will be.
Adding on, I expect that if individuals were left home alone frequently, then their perspective of their own family environment would be negative. This can be predicted with the idea of parent negligence.
Lastly, for the topic of interest, it is assumed that if individuals had a perception of a positive or somewhat positive family environment, then there is a greater chance that he or she will prefer to live with others in the future regardless if it will be family members, spouse, friends, or roommates. Vice versa, if one had a somewhat negative or negative outlook of their family environment, then it is likely that he or she will have a preference to live alone in the future instead with other
