Spending time with them was a type of caregiving that they longed for i would realize later in life as i moved from job to job, college to college, wondering what my purpose would be. My siblings and i were used to spending time with the elderly as the grandchildren spent every weekend at our grandparents home up the street. As a child my grandfather would round up all the kids for church every Sunday. We 'd groan about the prospect of spending a couple of hours being bored to tears while listening to the preacher drone on about faith and purpose in life; but we were there every Sunday, rain or shine. Afterwards our grandmother would prepare a huge Sunday feast and all of the grandchildren would play at our grandparents feet and listen to stories after dinner, and head advice about what this child would become and what that child would do with his or her life. I distinctly remember my grandfather Ray sitting at the dining room table with his cracked coffee cup and cigarette in hand; he pointed my direction one Sunday afternoon, and proclaimed, "And you Kelly, you will become a nurse." I set my my own schedule as a RN Case Manager, and i have built a rapport with my patients and their families and a reputation with my colleagues of being a compassionate nurse. And, i do believe that God is guiding my work, and often tell my co-workers and family that. However, helping my patients transition into the next life, and watching their families stuggle with this inevitability, weighs heavily on my heart; and it is time for a change to a different nursing specialty. My goal of attending CCU is to continue serving as a registered nurse in the capacity of a BSN. I intend to continue to serve patients and their families as a nurse, and believe completing the BSN will make me an even better nurse. Eventually i would like to move to Europe and serve as a nurse there as a paid nurse or as a volunteer. A BSN can afford me this opportunity as European nations also seek out the BSN trained nurses above all others. Thank you for this amazing opportunity that i am about to partake at Colorado Christian University. One is never too old to go back to school. I believe God has found a way for me to accomplish this
