My faith is about loving people, and showing grace, just like Jesus, and my political views tend to the side of giving people the right to make their own choice. I feel my political view would go well with social work practice. In social work, we want our client to keep or grow in their identity, and let them take back control of their lives. Social work practice allows them to become self-aware and make their own choices. The verse in the book of Luke, where Jesus talks about taking the plank in your eye while you are so concerned about the speck in your brother’s makes me reflect more about self-care. I know that I need to be in a healthy place before I should help a client, but the verse got me think about my thoughts and reactions towards clients. I should always check up on myself before I say something to the client about their situation, especially if I have been in a similar one. Another teaching that has me reflect on the integration of my faith and social work is “so in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.” This is a hard field I am going into, I have been warned from day one of that, but I need to remember that even on my hardest days with clients that don’t want to do their side of the work that I need to treat them, how I would want to be treated if roles were
