When analyzing the numerous types of skill sets that effective managers need to remain competitive for their company, it is indisputable that managers who have expert conceptual skills are able to be among the most successful. While having strong technical and human skills are imperative for a manager to remain well-rounded and have depth to their managing style, exceptional conceptual skills distinguish the most effective, efficient top-level managers from ordinary managers. Extraordinary conceptual skills mean that the manager has the ability to critically think through complex situations, and then resolve difficult situations. Entrepreneurial and innovative thinking is a vital skill for managers because it paves the way for new potential product lines and service offerings. A conceptual manager who possess innovative thinking can identify new opportunities to exploit, recognize customer needs, and what their company might be able to do to better serve those needs, or offer a better solution for a problem that customers have. Instead of operating on theory, or a production orientation (assuming what the customer wants), an innovative manager can assist in this development of a lucrative new product that directly meets the needs and problems of the company 's target market.
