I often see many homeless people lying around my job at the train station. I also observe people walk past the homeless community as if they are trash. Some of the homeless community has some of the brightest people. However, they all go overlooked because of their appearance. I, personally would not judge them because that could have been me. That could have been me asking for change, wearing the same worn down clothes for many months, and being treated like crap by others. “Good morning Destiny; have a great day!” Carmelo greets me every morning when I go to work with a bright smile. He is a very short man with dirty, torn, oversized, holey clothes. Just by him speaking to me makes me morning/day. Why? Homeless people are much more than their appearance. They are worth more than they are treated on the daily basics. They are humans not animals. They are equal just like the average business woman/man walking through the train station on the daily. If everyone could just get the chance to get to know them, it would be a beautiful sight.
I respect the homeless community so much, because they are so strong. There were times were my mom and I wanted to give up because we thought our lives was over. My mom even cried every night because she felt like she ruined my life at such a young age. But I feel like she didn’t, I just had to grow up and mature a little earlier because of my situation. Nevertheless, we picked ourselves up and kept pushing for greatness. I could remember what he told me like it was yesterday. He said, “Destiny, if you don’t take anything from his conversation just remember you can be whatever you want to be and strive to be great because you have more than enough potential to do
