Currently, there is no consensus among law enforcers and civil rights advocates about the potential and the most appropriate way to harness social media feeds to monitor the general public for documented acts of deviance (Wang, Tchernev, & Solloway, 2012). Positivism as an objective approach which relies on facts and quantitative data from previous research methods offers the most direct philosophical solution to study the proposed hypothesis (Gauch, 2003). A positivism study, such as this perspective research, allow the researcher to be independent form the study and makes no provisions for human interests within the study or design model (Gauch, 2003).
