What Are The Benefits Of Missing Education

1) A child does what he wants to do, an adult does what he should do. My grandpa always made sure to remind me of this. As a child, this idea infuriated me because, like most kids, I was sure that I knew what responsibility and maturity meant. Although this idea aggravated me in my younger years, I have come to appreciate it now that I am older. With older age comes more responsibility, and how we undertake said responsibilities exhibits our maturity level. For instance, school is not my favorite place to be, and it never was. In grammar school and middle school, I was perpetually asking to stay home, because that is what I wanted to do. However, now that it is up to me whether I do go to school or stay home, I make the decision to attend class, …show more content…
Educationally beneficial experiences, that is. I was always that kid missing school to go on vacations, because my grandpa knows the extensive importance of experience. Kindergarten was a Caribbean cruise, first, third and fifth grade along with junior and senior year were Hawaii. Yellowstone National Park was in seventh grade, and Washington DC was sophomore year, along with a multitude of others throughout my life. However, missing school doesn 't always mean missing education. Pearl Harbor is part of history. So when that came up in class, I knew all about it. . .I 've been there! When it came to learning about Lincoln; I 've been to his house in Springfield and the place he took his last breath in Washington, DC. Discussing the differences of Spanish speaking cultures in Spanish class, I 've been submerged in them in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. I have learned to value experience just as much as my grandpa does, maybe even …show more content…
This truly speaks for itself. People will not always drop what they are doing to help you out, especially when you did not even try by yourself. My mom has always loved to throw this concept out there. Recently, I have started applying it in my own life, becuase life flows much more painlessly once you realize that you are your own priority. It 's simply not practical to put someone before yourself. Not to say never assist others, however, if it comes down to doing what you need to do, or doing what someone else needs done, take care of yourself

What does it truly mean to be intellectual? Some may say that being intellectual means being book smart, while others say that it is being street smart. In an entry of “Hidden Intellectualism” by Gerald Graff, Graff believes that one can actually become intellectual if they start learning about topics they actually enjoy and then slowly start easing into challenging topics. While many argue that intellectualism is limited to the studies of school, non-academic activities such as traveling and truly experiencing these events can teach one about the history of a place, the culture, and how to solve problems. When asked why people decide travel they just say that they travel for vacation, but what they do not realize is that traveling is a learning experience.…

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends”. These bystanders not only lack the action and do nothing, but they betray the friendship and accountability, building on more distress for the victim. It is the common moral duty to help a friend in need, but in the modern age, most people are hypocrites prevented by fear, anxiety, stress, and absence of consciousness. John Darley and Bibb Latane, psychology professors, justify this human tendency of absence in urgent self-involvement in “Why People Don’t Help in a Crisis”.…

Becoming an Adult Adulthood is the time in which a person becomes intellectually, emotionally, and physically capable of living life. It takes a lot of practice to grow up, and one may make many mistakes and face many consequences before he or she becomes an adult. “To Sir John Lade, on His Coming of Age”, by Samuel Johnson and “When I Was One-and-Twenty”, by A.E. Housman are both poems about a twenty one year old coming of age. Johnson describes the coming of age by using a twenty year old man who has faced himself in a money situation and how he handles it, whereas Housman describes the coming of age by using a twenty-two year old man reflecting his past year as a twenty-one year old in a love situation and how it has affected his adulthood. In these poems,…

One of the main first world struggles of this decade is the cost of a higher education. The cost for college tuitions is quickly rising every year, therefore, people are less likely to strive for college due to cost. These moments, which were part of a trip, are most memorable because they helped break down the barriers that come cultural shock. The lives of people in the outskirts of Santo Domingo are much different from my sheltered life in small Kansas City, so I had to accept it and learn from such a shocking experience. On the trip, it was very appalling to see the conditions the people were living in.…
