Banquo automatically realizes they are witches, and deep down believes they are evil. He understands that they are predicting. Macbeth is confused and is baffled that he would become king. He shows that he believes that him becoming Thane of Cawdor is unbelievable that becoming king is so inconceivable that it couldn’t happen. When Macbeth calls the Thane of Cawdor a prosperous gentleman, he must be envious that he is stuck winning battle while he has the luxury of resting and sipping wine. This is a turning point for Macbeth. Macbeth wants to know where they got this information so that he can confirm it. He wants to know why they stopped them to tell him and Banquo of this prophecy.
