Living in the truth is a crucial part of a relationship with Christ. Because of our free will, no one has the power to make us see the truth and decide for us what we believe. This implies that our conscience is equipped to stay intimate with the truth that lives inside of us. For example, words can be very hurtful, especially when they are said to insult degrade us. However, it is up to the victim of the harsh comments whether he or she believes them to be true. The bullies cannot force you to believe the lies they are saying unless you choose to believe them. This awareness of free will and the control that it gives us opens the doors for further closeness with the truth and, ultimately, God.
