Reflective Essay: My Migration Into The United States

During Thanksgiving break we were asked to ask our parents about this election and what they thought about it and how that affected me and this country. It was an interesting assignment for me and my family because we usually do not talk about politics and especially because it was a really crazy election. Before I speak about the views of my family I have to shed some light on my background, and what ethics actually is. Explaining what ethics, I will explain how my family felt with this election, and how ethics is a huge part of engineering. I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, my family had migrated into the United States when I was only 2 years old. The beginning of our move here was extremely rough and there were extremely hard challenges for my entire family. We did not speak English and it was hard for my father to find a job that would support my entire family. With these really hard beginnings my siblings and I were raised to always work extremely hard and try the hardest to succeed that way our children do not have to live through what my family lived when we moved to the United States. My family and I were extremely shocked that a person that offended women, disabled people, and every kind of race had become the President-elect. I know that ethics will be used every day in engineering and event this semester was a great experience in ethics with our final project.
