Ethical Robotic Enhancements “Technological innovation is indeed important to economic growth and the enhancement of human possibilities” (“Enhancement Quotes” , 2017). This quote by Leon Kass, an American physician, is about how humans can break through our physical limitations through the innovation of technology and by doing so also stimulate economic growth. Mechanical alterations to humans could greatly improve human life by expanding human abilities through robotic enhancements. Mechanical engineers will be the ones who will design and build the mechanical augmentation that will allow them to improve human life. Mentioned in the paragraph before there is a thin line between helping people be able to live a comfortable life and creating superhumans. Christians have a moral obligation to make sure technology is being used for the correct reasons. The technology is going to be there, so Christians have to make sure that it is not being unethically used and creating people who are more robot than actual humans. Christians are called to science careers in order to draw that ethical line that should not be crossed. Also, all Christians are called to serve each other, so Christians who are engineers or scientists can help people through their scientific work. Mechanical engineers can create mechanical devices that assist humans and make life easier. Engineers are supposed to solve problems and figure out how to make life better and easier for people. Even though robots are taking over some jobs, robots can still benefit humans by being so technologically advanced. For example, Robots can take over simple tasks of some professions, such as nursing, so they have more time to do more important work (Whyatt, 2014). Also, robots can be used as tools for humans in order to make life easier and safer for humans. For example, robots can assist doctors in surgery and they are more accurate. (Whyatt, 2014). Mechanical engineers created a way to improve the healthcare field by using robots. Mechanical engineers also create mechanical things besides robots that help people and improve their lives. So, even though they hurt the jobs of some people by creating robots, mechanical engineers just try to improve human life just like every other
