Entertainment is a broad word that encompasses many activities, including sports, movies and video games. Many individuals argue that entertainment sources may weaken society and its founding principles. But really leisure activities can aid in making the world more open minded and aware of different topics that would have otherwise proven difficult. Though many people disagree, entertainment will not be the downfall of all morality, the poison to domestic happiness and not lead to the end of social order. Entertainment can better one’s morals. Adversaries of entertainment may argue that aggressive and dangerous video games that includes a lot of violence may teach children that it is okay to do these things. They would argue that the majority of comedy shows involve jokes that demean minorities, people’s religions and any differences that would make them unique. That will inherently make the individual ignorant to other individual’s differences. While these points do have merit, further examination shows they are problematic. While it is true that many video games do include a lot of violence and vulgar activities, many of them teach the player that morally wrong choices have negative consequences for them. This teaches the children that doing the wrong thing will actually be a deficit to them later. Also when many players take the morally righteous route, which many games have this option, there is usually rewards and consequences that will lead to the player’s favor. This will motivate the player to make the right choices when deciding what to do. With regards to the comedy idea, it is true that many comedians demean people, but it is also true that comedy teaches people what is funny and what is not funny. Some comedians actually influence when it is the right time to make a joke, and what the topic should be. Many comedians freely joke about every …show more content…
Many would argue that video games that involve breaking the law teaches individuals that it is not just okay to do such activities, but that they can get away with it. With such dangerous actions committed, children might become more inclined to break the law. Opponents to entertainment also suggest that comedians that demeans and make a mockery of the government would disrupt social order. These comedians might influence people to be displeased with their government which could cause some sort of rebellious behavior, causing social disorder. Although these points do have some grounds of reasonability, they do not detail show the full picture. Although many video games do contain violence and law breaking, a multitude of video games teach the player laws and many different parts of government. When a video game played for entertainment involves educational information such as this, it can cause better understanding of the boundaries of laws and government. Resulting in the betterment of society. With regards to comedians demeaning the government, some comedians can actually bring up valid points that the government might actually be neglecting. This can bring awareness for change in some cases. Comedians act on their own and some act as advocacy journalists, so they talk and poke fun at certain topics that they find worthy.
