Ap World History Test

During my years at high school, I was able to gain the ambiguous title of “nerd”. I always took it as a compliment whenever someone chose to use this label rather than my name because I attributed it to being something positive. I was obsessed with high school and just learning in general. Even though there were times where it wasn’t necessary, I always treated high school like a full time job. I was very passionate about everything I did for my classes, and I was consumed with the idea that I had to get the best grades I could. But I would also try to take the most challenging classes. I demanded a lot from myself, and because I always took the most advanced courses, which is why I decided to enroll in AP World History when I was scheduling …show more content…
I didn’t use my standard methods I put into effect for every other test I took in high school. I wasn’t used to preparing for a test that was so far away, so I had to adapt by familiarizing myself with a new system of learning because simply memorizing information wasn’t going to work this time. The main way I would study was taking practice tests or old AP World History tests. This really helped me become familiar with the way the questions and answers were set up, and it allowed me to have a better understanding of how the test worked in general. The AP World History test has a specific format, so by studying it over and over, I was not only learning the information presented in the questions, but I was also preparing for the specific structure of the questions themselves. Aside from taking practice tests, I found that the key to studying was repetition. I would constantly be reviewing all of my notes and rereading the textbook, trying to impress the information into my memory. Studying all year for one test is as dreadful as it sounds. I would constantly be making simple outlines of the history of the world, adding in only some specific detail. Eventually, I began to get annoyed by the redundancy of the information I was studying, but I knew it was the best way to commit the it to

I really did not know how to set up a speech properly. It was great to learn how to use an outline to set up a speech and use it as a guide to state my points. Previously when I spoke I would try and memorize every single thing I wanted to say which ended up setting me up for failure. The first speech in this class I ended up trying to memorize exactly what I wanted to say after I had written it all out. I then ended up reading directly off my paper, which wasn’t what I wanted to accomplish.…

I no longer saw them as a waste of time, a waste of money, I saw my academics as a way to build my own path to a better future, one that could help me take care of my family when I am older. I definitely finished the Discussions first before any other homework I had. The assignments were mainly Precision and Confluence leading them to be more fun and challenging because I knew there was going to be an analytical aspect that we would need exact information and our own opinions to tie together. I made sure they were done last actually because I needed to re-read (which is new for me) and highlight exact information before I could even glance at the Assignment. And the quizzes were fun because I would take them right after I did my Discussions and had highlighted so the information was clear in my mind. I took advantage of my strengths the moment I noticed what I needed to work on.…

American Psychological Association has many rules when it comes to citing works, creating a heading, numbering every page, and having a well set reference page. Citing pieces of works to my writing was definitely a huge challenge to me because never before did I have to cite papers that I had previously written in school. One of the things that really set me up for success was when my teacher provided a video tutorial on how to properly cite pieces in the paragraphs correctly. The class provided a serious challenge due to the amount of time given, to the work that had to be…

When I first began this class I thought that this would be just another introductory class that is required to orient you to the expectations of the particular college. Now, after completing this class, I know that this is not the case. Personal Dimensions of Learning has been a great help, not only to my school work, but also in my daily life. Before taking this class, I thought that learning, and completing daily tasks, were mostly memorizing the order of the way things are supposed to be done and just completing the task. I never liked this strategy, but it always seemed to be the most convenient way to get things done at school, home, and work.…

Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education”. Growing up I always loved going to school and learning new material. My parents constantly encouraged my sister and I to obtain a college education following high school. Surrounding myself with friends who supported that decision made receiving a college education an even bigger drive because we shared the same goal.…

Now writing my final paper for this class I understand how I struggled with the different assignments in different ways. I realized how every assignment had a point and a lesson that taught me to be a better writer, better researcher, and to build my own structure. It seems apparent now that I learned a lot more than I thought from this class. I now hope I can use these new skills in my other classes and within my future research papers. I hope that I will not struggle as I did with every beginning of each assignment but remember the skills I have acquired an apply them as…

The “Thinking” method of learning is my second best category and I think to stay in that category I will just continue to do as I have been. I will continue to analyze the entire situation and write my lists so that I can stay on track and focused on the topic at hand. As well as continuing to use my textbook, the library, and other logical resources to complete my studies and work. The one thing that I don’t agree with is that they say that people who learn by the “Thinking” method tend to like when their instructors give well informed lectures on the topic. Since I have a hard time staying focused on speeches this is a part of this style of learning that doesn’t fit me very well.…
