When people think of English class, most of the time they think of using proper grammar, writing long essays, and reading a really old book that somehow still applies to society today; however, over the course of this second semester I have discovered that there is more to an English class. This semester, we have written over 50 pages, prepared for a test that determines are educational future, and have read many books including the renowned Hamlet. These activities have changed the way I think and taught me important life lessons. This year in English 11, it was required that we wrote at least 5 pages about anything every week. This taught me something I didn’t really know about myself. Something that I really need to change is my procrastination. Waiting until the last minute had become a habit, and I know that if I want to excel to higher learning, then I will need to break that habit. Writing 5 pages every week also showed me what I like to write about. Over the weeks, the majority of my topics were about what I thought needed to fixed in our world. This showed me that I am really passionate about making a difference for the better. Over the course of the semester, I read many books. Most of the books that I read had the same essential theme. I read Jesse Andrews’ book, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. The book was a good read for me. The book was very well written and he was able to make it humorous which is hard. The book was also very relatable. In a lot books that revolve around high school, they tend to be overdone or even unrealistic but Jesse Andrews wrote about high school just like it is.…

For those who have not heard of this book, it follows a freshman named Charlie, through diary entries. Charlie is "Shy, Introspective, Intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward" and the story follows him as he attempts to fit in and find friends. If you have not seen the movie, go check it out! It's such an emotional journey (excuse the clichéd description). This book is roughly 230 page, which is a bit long for a petite book, however I'll definitely be able to read a decent chunk of it during the 24 hours.…

A good example of this phenomenon is my sister and her friends. This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
