The importance of empowerment in Social Work practice is essential to effectively helping the client. The client and the social worker have to both feel empowered because everyone should feel worthy of using their voice to get a point across or to help some else in need, and not feel any lack of power. Empowerment is the process of knowing one self and using families, organization and communities around them to increase their personal and political power to improve them self so they can accomplish their goals. In the social work field there will be all different types of clients and it is our job to search for the client’s strength and weakness and understand the community in which they live in when providing them with resources. Including social action will allow my clients to feel empowered because they have the ability to pick what they should do next to help themselves. They are in control and not merely the objects of other people 's choices or decisions. As social worker we provide resources and allow the client to pick what they want to do. Without having this included my clients will not learn from the mistakes they made, and learn how to help themselves if they slip back into bad habits. My job is not to give them the answers but to help them realize there are multiple paths and educate them on the pros and cons of each and then help them reach their …show more content…
Having this as a component of my practice I am aware of one 's personal situation is influenced by the society around them as well as the socio-economic and political forces. If one do not know the political views around oneself it would be hard for one to have their practice because one need to know what are the rules, regulations in their area and if any new bills have been passed and so on. Having the ability to know what is going on in one 's society allows this person to provide appropriate resources for their client, for example there is a client who wants to give their child up for adoption, a social worker can provide them with the resources to find a good adoption agency. What if the Major in your area have a rule that no one is allowed to give their child up for adoption, but they can either they keep it or you get an abortion ahead of time. As a social worker one need to know these types of rules and regulations, so one would be able to efficiently provide their clients with the best help and
