Businesses and employees must be resilient in order to survive and thrive in today’s marketplace (Harrington, A. (2012). While technology has improved the quality of our lives and enabled businesses to operate more efficiently, it also dramatically accelerated the speed of change and forced companies to compete in a global marketplace. Thus, increasing competition, shortening product life cycles, and placing a greater emphasis on innovation and speed to market. The combined impact of these new realities has driven steadily escalating pressure on employees to handle rapid and constant change. Therefore, companies must take steps to diminish these impacts and develop training to enhance employee resilience (Harrington, A. (2012).

Some work groups also had employees create Brag Boards to record and save their workplace successes to provide employees with a means of positive self affirmation during difficult times. Finally, we added resilience as a critical dimension we assess during the hiring process for all new employees and leaders via online assessments and interview questions.

In closing, companies similar to mine have made headway in enhancing employee and organizational resilience by training leaders to effectively lead change, helping employees identify and leverage their strengths, and assessing employee resilience during the hiring process. Smarthinking offers several tutorial services that will aide in my success as a student at Bethel University. I’ll primarily take advantage of the real time services Smarthinking offers such as, Drop-in Tutoring, Scheduled Tutoring, and Academic Resources (Bethel University, 2014). I’ll also utilize other options like the Writing Center, Paragraph Submission, and Offline Questions that provide a response to student questions approximately twenty four hours after submittal.

Additionally, after browsing the Smarthinking website, Drop-in Tutoring and Scheduled Tutoring will be the tools I utilize the preponderance of the time since they allow me the flexibility of balancing the need for tutoring with other personal and professional commitments. The opportunity to receive real time assistance in a multitude of subjects ranging from writing, reading, accounting, Spanish, and practically the entire gambit of math and science subjects makes it convenient for students to receive the support they need to succeed (Bethel University, 2014). Additionally, since Bethel University is a writing based program, the Writing Center is another powerful tool I’ll leverage. The Writing Center provides students with the option of having a singular paragraph or an entire essay reviewed, evaluated, and feedback provided by a Writing Center instructor prior to submitting the assignment to their facilitator

The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

The construct of Authentic Leadership Theory is relatively new to the research of leadership. It was not until the late 2000s when several contemporary events suchlike the final crisis in 2008 in the United States along with other ethical scandals challenged scholars to research further from the conventional leadership theories that have left unanswered gaps on the study of leadership. The choices we make in life determine our overall outcome, be it positive or negative. These choices can affect not only us, but our family, finances and health, to name a few. Some choose to give up and be defeated by obstacles that lay in their way, while others resiliently endure and overcome challenges they face. Anna Harrington expresses, “Resilience has been defined as an attitude that enables the individual to examine, enhance, and utilize the strengths … available to him or her” (Harrington, n.d., n.p.). In other words, the internal drive to persevere at all costs is in the mindset of each individual.…
