I believe that each resident should be informed of the importance of embracing and respecting diversity whether it is racial, sex, sexual orientation, or even socioeconomically. I often hear people use homophobic and racist comments either as direct insults or in regular conversation and I feel that such language, which is very inconsiderate, derives not just from hate but ignorance. This topic is important because everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect no matter what. Living on campus is an opportunity that all students should have the ability to experience; however, in a safe and wise manner. I am not saying that the residents should be parented and told what to do every waking hour; however, informing them of the risks and hazards of drug and alcohol consumption can be key.
