Having effective communication skills is the core of leadership. One might have a vision for where one would like to take his/her company but without properly communicating that vision, it would be hard to lead the company towards it. It is also necessary that one understands the individuals who are following him and their strengths and weaknesses. It is vital that they actively listen to their employees and engage in clearly expressing their thoughts and ideas. It is also vital that one ensures that their employees understand what their tasks are and why. American businessman and writer, Max De Pree, writes about the utilization of communication in his book, Leadership Is An Art (1987). He states, "We understand that …show more content…
Public relations is defined as "a strategic communication process that build mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics" (The Public Relations Society of America, 2016). As the CEO of the firm, it is one of his duties to make decisions. But he should try to actively involve members of his company in the decision making process in order to gain their input. (A. Namvargolian, personal communication, February 13, 2016). The employees would most likely have a better perspective on how these decisions might affect the way the rest of his employees might operate. Would it cause unnecessary obstacles on their progress? It can greatly decrease any lagging that might have been due to their lack of knowledge of the existence of these projects. He should also try and learn about the type of communication methods that his employees prefer, or at least, use. Maybe his employees also do not like electronic communications as well. Maybe they prefer in-person meetings as opposed to emails, texts, or phone calls. Regardless, there must be some sort of communication medium that is efficient in dispersing information in a timely manner. At the very least, Williams should have meetings with a few personnel. He could assign one or a few of them to be in charge of relaying information in the mediums that his employees prefer. Meetings with his staff would also be beneficial as they can help him gain better insight on his staff 's view and attitude towards his decision, goals, and the overall vision of the company. By involving them and taking an active approach to understand them, he can enhance his
