When most people think about psychology, they think about mental illness, counselors and therapy (Goodfriend, 2015). The field of psychology is large, with one of the most popular areas being educational psychology (Goodfriend, 2015). Johann Herbart is considered to be the father of educational psychology and he believed that learning was influenced by intrest in the subject and teacher (“Educational Psychology,” 2015). Educational psychology is a field that studies and applies theories and concepts from all of psychology in an educational setting (Goodfriend, 2015). The goal of educational psychology is to make any teacher-student relationship as positive as it can be, so the students can learn to the best of their potential (“Educational …show more content…
The change in behavior may not be immediate, or directly observed. This is a continuing progression that continues throughout life. Teachers need to use different instructional styles to make sure that all students have the opportunity to learn in a way that’s best for them. They must research the best ways to accomplish assessments on the students in the classroom.
The learning situation in which learners find themselves is also important. Most of the time this will be a classroom setting. Classroom management has been a priority for many years (“Classroom Management,” 2015). It is one of the most serious obstacles to promoting effective teaching (Kratochwill, 2012). It is one of the most prevalent reasons for job burnout and teacher concerns for their own safety (Kratochwill, 2012). With a lack of effective classroom management, many students have also reported they feel unsafe (Kratochwill, 2012).

Classroom management works best when teachers emphasize expectations for behavior, support student involvement and address behavior problems. When teachers identify what good behavior looks like, they can work backwards from desired outcomes to determine which management will be most effective (Kratochwill, 2012). Appropriate interventions should be used to address students who have behavior problems (Kratochwill, 2012). A successful classroom management outcome has a relationship with students and optimizes their learning (Kratochwill, 2012).
