The Importance Of Education

As a young child, my mother would always encourage me to do my best in school and go beyond what was expected of me. I was not allowed to go outside and play with my friends unless I had finished all of my homework. I could not understand why my mother pushed me so hard, given the fact that she did not complete college. This is not to say that I thought less of my mother, but as her daughter, I wanted to be just like her. Being able to obtain a Bachelor’s degree was the best decision I could have ever made, with the support of my mother. My mother grew up in a single parent home, with four brothers and sisters, in a low income neighbor. She was extremely activity in school and everyone knew the girl who could play basketball well and make …show more content…
While at UTC, I learned a lot about myself and how to conduct myself in a business manner. I joined a lot of student lead organizations and was able to make a good name for myself on campus. Not to mention, I co-founded an organization with one of my best friends. Establishing an organization called Unique Perception (U.P.) solely to empower women was the best creation I could have ever done. In a sense U.P. made my college experience meaningful not only to me but to other women as well.
Unique Perception is an organization that has a desire to uplift women without the barrels of discrimination: religion, race, ethnicity, and sexual preference. The organization was created during the most difficult times in life and if it were not for the amazing sisterhood, I do not know how I would have made it through. I am not saying this simply because I help found the organization, but UTC had no organization that catered to the needs of the entire student body of women. U.P. is a place where leaders are molded in phenomenal activists for the community. U.P. is untimely the best thing to ever happen to

I am not the person to talk to people about the hurdles that I go through because I do not want people to feel bad for me. On the other hand, what I have found is that releasing all the stress that I have can cause less hurt. I definitely needed encouragement during that time but I was not able to receive help because I did not open up to anyone. My mother was not able to get through to me because I was ultimately embarrassed and did not want her to be worried about me. My mother and I share a very close bond, but I never wanted to feel like I was a burden to

Last fall, I applied to SMU and wrote about how like many institutions, SMU is a place where leaders are shaped. Not many institutions, however, can boast that its institution is shaping leaders inside and outside of the classroom. In my opinion, education is a tool one can use to change markets and societies, which is vital in order to eradicate global poverty. However, education is useless until one applies it to the real world. While Wake Forest University has provided me with a challenging curriculum, the lack of opportunities in Winston Salem almost make the classroom experience at Wake seem useless.…

I have been a Xavier University Smooth Transition (ST) mentor for 3 years since the years of 2014-2016. Smooth Transition is a first-year student summer pre-orientation and year-long peer mentoring program that seeks to support underrepresented domestic and help them transition smoothly to college. Most smooth Transition students are often African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. Being a smooth transition requires selflessness as the program unpaid and requires one to dedicate their time to helping another student, as most of the time, the smooth mentors can be the only one that the student can depend on. As a mentor, I have guided first-year students to make good decisions in their college years to succeed in the…

She had experienced it with her siblings, my father and my sister. Now me. "…

Having attending two colleges, I know what is important to look for in colleges. My past has allowed me to know what factors will truly influence success. Not only is education important, but the educators play a key role in the success of students. The student to faculty ratio still allows for a relationship with faculty members despite the large population. Seeing the internship opportunities, resources provided, as well as the campus itself, I feel assurance that this is a place where I belong, a place where I will always be busy but also enjoy what I am doing and get the help I need.…

Another year has come and the past and yet again Nevada has made its presence known; but not in the way it wants. Nevada, as keeping in tradition, has for the third year in the row ranked last among all states and Washington DC in education. Now this won 't come as a surprise to many, with the lackluster funding, and scandal that continuously define Nevada 's education system. Yet nevertheless, this isn 't the kind of news Nevadans want to hear. And with the current debate over Core Curriculum, and the several education-related initiatives on this year 's 2016 ballot; the conversation over education has never been so relevant.…

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, diversity is the condition of having or being of different elements. Many times the word diversity is used in terms of people and cultures. This is the case because no two people are alike, and this holds true for cultures as well. Diversity of an individual encompasses three different areas: invariability, variability, and influence. While invariable characteristics of a person tend to remain the same over one’s lifetime, variable characteristics and environmental influences vary throughout a lifetime.…

Education today, in my opinion, is not doing what it should be doing to ensure that America is actually living up to what it is known for...the land of opportunities. I believe that education should be about an empowering experience that helps students discover their passions, fosters their critical thinking skills, promotes an environment that accepts diversity, and encourages students to apply to skills to the outside world. This should be he purpose of American public schooling because it will help society adapt to changing times and encourage the growth of a well-rounded, modern, and accepting culture which in the long run help foster peace and equality. I am sure that there are many schools in America that try and foster all of things,…
