Education has been the foundation of society for thousands of years, inspiring millions of learners that are bound to become fundamental in the future. Ever since I learned the true impact of learning, whether through school or experiences, I have grown to have immense respect for those willing to teach others and also those willing to learn. When it comes to the importance of education, many of the most prominent figures that have walked this Earth recognized its capabilities, and the impact it can have on society. For instance, Nelson Mandela commented on its importance by stating that- “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. By hearing this statement and the many other comments made, I’ve …show more content…
As a student, I understand that there are multiple different types of learners, and this will be a challenge when it comes to the types of instruction I wish to pursue. However, some of the standards that I could master upon entering the profession would be that of standards Two, Five, Six, and Seven. Standard Two is unique when compared to the others, stating that “teachers know and understand the content area for which they have instructional responsibility” (Ohio Department of Education, 2013). Before officially becoming a teacher, It is my goal to make sure that I have a sufficient understanding of the topic that I would be teaching. In order to do this, I have taken extra time outside the classroom to gain the opportunity to learn more about the subject of social studies. By doing so, I will be better prepared when it comes to understanding the content that would be taught in the activities, lessons, etc. When it comes to Standards Five and Seven, these two closely related as they both promote a learning environment that is fair, safe, and productive for the students by making sure the teacher follows the ethics and legal guidelines of teaching (Ohio Department of Education, 2013). Again, I find these two possibly being easier to overcome, and could find myself quickly following these guidelines right …show more content…
I believe this will be one of the most difficult tasks to conduct while teaching, but also one of the most rewarding. Depending on the grade level, the type of instruction that I choose to teach would have to be effective, and also useful in the long run for the students. It is one thing to relay information that is expected to be taught, but it is something else to find meaning in what I would be teaching, and make it worth learning for the students. Of the readings, discussions, and videos that we have participated in during class, I found that a quote given by Sir Ken Robinson in his “The Art of Teaching” being the most influential. Early on in the short clip, Robinson made the comment saying that “the way to get people to learn, is by connecting it to the learners interest, to what motivates them, what energies them, what excites them, what engages their imagination.” This quote truly represents why people strive to learn more in life, and how to teachers should spark the interest of the learners. As a teacher I would find it fundamental in my teaching habits to make my lesson plans interesting, and engage the learners to ask questions about what they are learning. Obviously each student does not express the same amount of interest for each subject, but I would like to have my students
