Dumbest Mistakes In My Life Essay

Improved Essays
I was sort of homeschooled up until I was 9. My parents did not want me in the public school system because of the continuing rise of immorality in the schools, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, and the decline of the education system in the United States. Even so my parents did not do much better teaching me. I would have to say though its partly my own fault I often gave my mother a hard time in every possible way a kid could think of like for example I would burn some of the homework my mom gave me, or even throw it out the window and slack off even just simply say no I don’t want to do it (I was very stubborn) similar to the dog ate the homework type of things. They gave up after much toil with me when I was around 8 or 9 to my great enjoyment …show more content…
Because of this I thought I was too dumb, and that it was hopeless. That led to something like a mental barrier against learning. It wasn’t all bad though, I learned how beneficial reading good books are when I was really young, because of my father he would often read and I would watch him and he would always be happy when he was reading it got me curios on why so I started reading myself and discovered how powerful they can be, its beauty, its imaginative nature. At one point I even figured out how to not care what people say, about me as long as I try to do the best I can. Here is a good quote from a friend of mine (I don’t know where he got it) “keep trying until you succeed even if you fail a few times. One often learns more from his failures then from his …show more content…
I could not walk for months all I could do was play computer games or read. I chose reading because I could use this opportunity with no distractions to advance my knowledge further. But I still had no way of telling if what I was learning was sufficient for college. Then an old bishop of mine mentioned pathway why I can’t say for sure but I think he saw potential in my sister and even with our lack of knowledge in many areas. He would often say we were smarter then many kids he has seen in the public schools but I never believed him until I got in seminary I ended up being the best in class I was astonished I guess that was the major start of the uphill climb for me to a better future nevertheless when he mentioned pathway I really got excited, I knew that this was the perfect way to find out my weakest areas to make them stronger even if it meant failing. I learned a few new things, gained confidence it felt like that mental barrier is crumbling down I am overjoyed and never thought it could be done. Now I know because of pathway even as I’m writing this that my weakest area is in fact writing and that’s ok. It has been a real struggle for me. That just means time to work harder if I want to continue growing. That being said, when I looked back there were many times that I had a problem, God was there to help me rediscover myself. Every single mistake that was made in the past is lessons to be learned. I don’t even expect to get

Furthermore, the same article also states, "We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success we often discover what will do by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery'- 19th century Scottish author, Samuel Smiles." Failure is something that everyone can learn from. I definitely have learned from failure and improved myself from my past failures. One of my defining failures that comes to mind is this past year at the DECA State Competition. I come from a small high school in Indiana, and we take about forty students to the state competition. One of our largest competitors at state is a high school that brings around five hundred kids each year.…

Much adversity and vicissitude throughout my life has broken me down and slowed progress—forcing action to resolve many disputes and reverse path. Early in life, my parents split up; leaving me with my mother. beginning school, a learning disability forced much struggle within the battle of learning to read, but I persevered through diligence to be an A/B honor roll student throughout grades 1-5. Depression and anxiety paired with severe bullying drastically dropped my attendance and grades as I struggled with the unaccustomed habitat I was forced into. Consequently, I went about a large stint in life with little desire to live—believing I was alone.…

It’s the first day of kindergarten and a child walks in through the doors, the child sits down, the teacher walks in, and starts the first lesson. The child has now started their journey of having a fixed or growth mindset. In “Brainology”, Carol explains the effects of having a fixed or growth mindset. The two types of mindsets are developed at very young ages, often in early elementary and at home by how parents praise their children. A fixed mindset is the result of negative praise and believing that the ability to succeed in a subject is based on what they already know about it.…

Sometimes in life, the choices that we make were a limit and affect us in many different ways. Richard Rodriguez talks about how the education changes his life in "The Achievement of Desire". His desire to success put him in an uneasy relationship with his parents and loss of his cultural language. Rodriguez believes that sacrificing barriers can earn him a success. Rodriguez fined himself as a "scholarship boy" which was started by Hoggart in his own lecture "The Use of Literacy" and a kid who has the same situation as to dealing with his education versus parents.…

Growing up, I was taught at all different kinds of schools and places. The first school I was taught at was a private faith-centered school, called Saint Matthews Catholic School. Saint Matthews was an elementary school that went up to the 6th grade. In Saint Matthews, the majority of students were “white,” Hispanic, upper middle class, high class, and (not surprisingly) Catholic. Although I loved going to Saint Matthews, I could not deny that it was a very segregated place.…

At times I knew the material well, but was unable to demonstrate my mastery of the material on an exam due to anxiety. Through hard work, I have learned coping mechanisms for my anxiety, and my grades on my post-baccalaureate courses attest to the great progress I have made in this area. In addition, I am severely dyslexic. This too is an innate weakness that I have worked hard to overcome. While I developed into a voracious reader in 6th grade, it has taken longer for me to hone my writing skills.…

A Thousand Experiences Throughout life, individuals face different obstacles and struggles; my obstacle was my tendency to be shy. For example, when I was faced with social pressures like speaking in front of a class for a presentation, or meeting new people, I would be a nervous wreck. My palms would sweat, my voice would tremble, and it took all the strength I could muster to overcome my irrational fears. I only had a small, albeit close knit group of friends due to my introverted ways.…

I was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. I am the youngest of four children, and I did not really attend public schools, but I was homeschooled during some of my elementary and middle school days. I was a very bright student and completed all my works, but I hit some challenges as I got older. I liked to do my schoolwork early, so I can have spare free time to play video games and hang out with friends before I had to go to football practice, but my mother who is very educated didn't allow me to spend all my free time to play video games. She would always want me to do chores or read a book, but I never really would get into reading as much because I never found it appealing.…

Yet my failure could not and would not erect a barrier for me nor define my abilities. I utilized my mistakes, making it a tool for success, pushing myself to heights everyone thought was unattainable for “someone like me.” A year later, those same kids are coming to me for help in the same subject area. I did not allow one test be marked as my downfall, but rather act a steer in the right direction. We must take ourselves and keep pushing until we reach our highest potential, as mistakes “represent the highest of human endowments.”…
