Why I Chose College Study

Many people learn early on growing up that college is a good way to prepare you for a well paying job in the future. Growing up it was always something encouraged, but I never realized that there were requirements to be accepted into a college or university. In my mind at a young age, it was just something I thought was necessary to do just like attending middle school and then high school. I always believed I would eventually get to that point in my life and go to college study a few more years and go on to that profession. There was no question about it; I would go and that was that.
On the other hand, though, my parents only finished the sixth grade in Mexico in addition to that they did not even speak English. I did not think much of this since I lived in a predominantly Hispanic area. My whole elementary school consisted of Hispanic students whose parents were similar to my own. Most of us were bilingual; it was just the norm. I had no idea of what I would have to overcome just to get into college. All I knew was that I wanted a better life for myself and an education was the way to achieve it.

I would come home from school exhausted with a pile of homework due the next day. All I wanted to do was take a nap and forget about the essays, projects, and assignments. I knew they were important, but after not sleeping well the past few days I began to forget what the point in it all was. My family was always there though, looking at my younger siblings I would remember that they looked up to me. Being older it was my responsibility to show them anything was possible they could meet their goals with enough work and effort.
