The racism has taken place within my family mostly. However, my family has experienced it together in public places, which has involved several types of people. It is a public issue because other minorities experience racism as well. Another problem that I have encountered recently deals with transgender issues. One of my former coworkers recently started the transition to becoming a man. This caused a problem because he started to block and ignore the people in his life. This opened my eyes to the struggle that transgender people have in their transition. This is a public issue because most transgender people are misunderstood in society and I think people need to be more willing to understand what others go through. I have also become a supporter for Planned Parenthood funding as it is being threated. This is a public issue because the people that protest Planned Parenthood mostly do not understand the services that the organization offers. I believe that Planned Parenthood is important because it provides support for women that may not be able to afford a regular doctor’s visit, which might make them a high-risk …show more content…
One part of the article that I found interesting was the discussion of the “Negro Motorist Green Book.” According to DeCourcey (2017), The book “provided places that were welcoming to blacks as they made their way through the segregated country.” I found this interesting because it seems that history may come full circle again because the NAACP issued a travel warning in June for minorities traveling to Missouri. In the TIME magazine article by Emma Talkoff (2017), “Chapel says that the advisory is a unique tool for making people aware of these events and giving them the opportunity to ‘simply decide what level they want to participate in.’ He believes it’s part of the NAACP’s ‘duty’ to call attention to what he sees as increased risk for discrimination in the state.” I found the connection to the past both interesting and
