The topic is “by providing more education on guns to school aged children (aged 5 to 18) the number of accidental shootings will be reduced.” The problem statement is that to many individuals die in shootings every day. Nearly 48 youth are shot every day, including 7 fatalities. By providing children with proper knowledge and training on how to handle a gun the number of incidents will be reduced. The population for research will be the entire United States. Stratified sampling will be used due to the large population by using the census bureau which breaks the population into different regions. Information will be collected from databases and agencies on how many accidental shootings occur each year as well as how many locations offer gun safety training for children. Proportional stratified sampling will also be used. Per O’Sullivan, et al. (2011, p. 95), “the sample size for each stratum is proportional to its size in the population.” There are six regional offices locations: Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Denver, and Los Angeles. Within each region the number of states represented range from seven to twelve.
