By going to college players can do the most important thing for success in their future, according to Dan Hilton, which is by getting an education. Players who eventually drop off of the radar in the NBA usually don’t have anything going for them besides basketball, which is why it is very important for them to get an education. People like Shaquille O’Neal know why it’s so important because when he retired, Shaq went back to college to get his PHD and is qualified to become a doctor. Even in college players have the chance to expand their social life and get to know people that can help them in their future. Players also should go to college for more than one year, because they can’t get a degree when they declare NBA bound after one year. As Dan Hilton said, ““one-and-done” athletes aren’t taking the opportunity of a free education as seriously”(Hilton 2).
