It should be about the knowledge and motivation that students achieve through their own experiences in the world. After all, the motivation that sparks from these experiences is lit for a longer time compared to that produced in a classroom. When students are motivated to follow their passions and their creativity, they “achieve an excellent college” and “form a college for himself [themselves]” (Emerson 103). A student not self-motivated will hinder in his education as he will not retain or participate in activities. However, by less governing on “what he [students] shall know, what he [students] shall do,” teachers create an open-minded environment in which students are encouraged to use creativity and express their ideas (Emerson 102). They will find a deeper meaning associated with what is being taught, which will be “imprinted on our [their] rains” and “crystallize into hard data” (Prose 90). Students will challenge themselves with harder books despite the complex vocabulary and questioned the ways of society. They will challenge their norms, getting comfortable becoming uncomfortable because sitting in a classroom, taking notes on lectures and textbook information or taking tests to assess knowledge will never be as effective as exploring the world and gaining knowledge that can be passed on through
